A documentary film on the popularity of field hockey and its role in providing livelihood to the youth mass of tribal-dominated Sundargarh district was screened here at Jayadev Bhawan today.
Titled `The Tribal Scoop’, the 53-minute-long film was presented by director Beeswaranjan Pradhan, under the banner of `Code Red Film Team’. The movie presented the passion of traditional youth for `Khashi’ tournament in Sundargarh, which has produced around 50 international and 1500 National level hockey players in a span of 30 years.
`` The screening has been dedicated to Odisha State Government for hosting Hockey World Cup thTs year,’’ said director Pradhan. The film was earlier screened in the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival in Germany.
It become the winner of documentary film awards, Atlanta in Georgia, Rome Cinema DOC in Rome and DFK New Wave Fortnight award in Kolkata, claimed Pradhan. ``I am very much touched with the film, it reminds me my childhood days. I had also started my journey from this way,’’ said former Indian captain Dilip Tirkey.
We all international players of Sundargarh districts came across with Khasi (Goat as prize) tournament, which is still papular in the districts. What i am today it is because of hockey only,’’ admitted Olympian Lazarus Barla.
Assistant Director Sana Ahmad, former Indian hockey team captain Prabodh Tirkey, Olympian William Xalxo and Hockey Gangpur Odisha Secretary Debasish Gouda were present on the occasion.
